size matters

Gabriel pointed out I tend to make things very small and indeed I realised I've a niche in making things really small. It takes quite a bit of skill and understanding of the balloon to do that. On the way home with Gabriel after a balloon sculpting sharing session at Tampines, while he was making a garfield, I took to making a really small puff heart.

repay the favour

Was taking CGO Michael's car just now and he casually asked if it was possible to make something for him to give to his girlfriend tml morning. But since I have NDP tml, it'll be very rush in the morning and so I proposed making one right after I get home. CGO was very helpful to me when I first came onboard resilience, both Jie Xiao and myself agree that "it's time to repay the favour".
So, after 70 minutes of labour, there it is!
Almost couldn't finish cos I didn't have many Metallic Red 260s left. In the end I'm left with 3 pieces... Looks like I'll have to restock when I go on leave in July. Need for stock up well for school ;)

花好月圆 lantern of plum blossoms

Time was September 2008 and I can't remember the date clearly. We were onboard persistence en route to Japan and it was mid autumn festival. There was a lantern making competition and I thought of making this lantern using balloons and putting lightsticks in the middle so it glows. Thankfully or unfortunately otherwise, the mess we stayed in was freaking cold, preserving the balloon sculpture well, almost as well as our semi-alive bodies. This is the first time I combined origami with balloon sculpting.
Sculpture is made of 12 5-petalled plum blossoms locked together in a sphere. Round satin white in the middle, break the cyalume stick and it's done! Looked beautiful at night, I'm loving it and looking forward to mid-autumn 2009! This was my very first original design which I figured out based on the inspirations I got from making kusudamas. The adaptation of it to a lantern is something new, though.
